The Seed to Seasons event celebrated the collective achievements of teachers and leaders across Pacific Early Learning Services (PELS), while intentionally weaving in professional development opportunities that encouraged reflection, connection, and growth along their learning journeys.
The event opened with a keynote address from Jo Togiaso, an ECE-trained educator and Director of Pacific Development at the University of Canterbury, who set the tone by grounding the day in purpose, service, and future aspirations. This was followed by two engaging workshops: Sam Pilisi explored burnout, wellbeing, and the importance of serving self in order to serve others, while Will Fleming focused on storytelling as professional evidence and the emerging role of AI in education practice.
Rowley School and St Anne’s School then shared their powerful journeys of establishing and sustaining Samoan bilingual units, offering practical insights and inspiration. These reflections were complemented by contributions from our tertiary partners; UC, Te Rito Maioha, and Ara; who outlined study and professional pathways available to Pacific educators.
The day concluded with a shared dinner, providing space to celebrate the dedication and service of our teachers and centres to Pacific families and children. Each centre presented acknowledgement certificates, and we also honoured those who have demonstrated long service, recognising their enduring commitment to Pacific early learning communities.
We couldn’t have delivered this event without the incredible support of our Pacific speakers, providers, and businesses. Their contribution is what made the event truly special for our centres and teachers.
